These two documentaries really opened up my eyes as to why Techno comes from Detroit. Techno couldn't have come from anywhere else. I find it amazing when Juan Atkins reflects that their parent's jobs in the car factories were getting replaced by robots. How the thematic obsession with Space somehow mirrors the incomparable sense of space Detroit has, since the city is large enough for 4 million+, yet there are only 1 million inhabitants. And this in turn meant many, many empty warehouses, which in turn provided the locations for this new style of music.
