The Animaris Rhinoceros Transport is a type of animal with a steel skeleton and a polyester skin. It looks as if there is a thick layer of sand coating the animal. It weighes 2 tons and it stands 4.70 meters tall. Because of its height it catches enough wind to start moving.

The Animaris Rhinoceros Transport is a direct descendant of the Animari or Beach Animals.

Theo Jansen (1948) studied physics at the University of Delft (The Netherlands) He left University to become an artist. He has been working on creating a new life-form. Beach Animals. These creatures consist of walking skeletons. They are wind powered. Over the years an evolution has occurred, which can be seen in the succeeding generations. Eventually he wants to put these animals on the beach where they will lead their own lives.

I had the luck of being at his studio when he did an opening, after having met him at ars electronica 2k5.
the guy is the top.
try to find out the optical scanner/printer he created with only physics principles, no electronics etc.
it's very tough to find, but I have it on DVD.
if anyone is interested, I can post it on youtube.
contact me on my youtube or through my blog.

Kudos to the guy on his engineering, but that is the
single most terrifying moving object I have ever seen.
I feel like it would come after me, slowly, and never,
ever stop. It would lay waste to every square inch of
the earth in its slow, cold, blood-pursuit.

Fuck that awful metal monster... fuck it forever.

Delightful device. Think of one of 20 tons on Daytona Beach!!! In a mid-sized hurricane it should make it to Atlanta.

I LOVE THIS THINGAMAHJIGAHMAH! WHERE Does he go for fun? Does he go to good restaurants? He must eat maybe too much to go to just one resturant a nite! I would not like to
miss him if he were to go to one of my favorite restaurants! He is very special. Thank-you!
